Urban drainage manual

The provisional Queensland Urban Drainage Manual (QUDM) has been prepared by DEWS as a result of the review required under Recommendation 10.8 of the final report of the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry.

A final version of the manual should be available by late 2016.

About the Queensland Urban Drainage Manual

The Queensland Urban Drainage Manual is intended to assist engineers and stormwater designers in the planning and design of urban drainage systems within Queensland.

It addresses the technical and regulatory aspects requiring consideration during the planning, design and management of urban stormwater drainage systems. The manual provides details of appropriate design methods and computational procedures and covers both hydrologic and hydraulic procedures as well as environmental and legal aspects of urban stormwater drainage.

The manual is an engineering guideline designed to be used in partnership with other design manuals on topics such as floodplain management, total water cycle management, water sensitive urban design, and natural channel design and needs to be applied appropriately to local conditions.

It was first published in 1992 and is a joint venture between the Queensland Division of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, the Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government.
