Power system summer preparedness plan

During the summer months, Queensland regularly experiences high temperatures and extreme weather events that place a higher than usual demand on our electricity network.

Under the Powering Queensland Plan, a Power system summer preparedness plan (PDF, 967.7KB) has been developed to ensure Queensland is well-prepared for the electricity demands the summer may bring.

The Queensland Energy Security Taskforce developed the plan in consultation with private and government owned generators, Powerlink, Energy Queensland and the Australian Energy Market Operator.

The 5 point action plan examines short term risks and opportunities for power system security and reliability, and includes actions to:

  • maximise generation availability
  • maximise transmission and interconnector availability and capacity
  • maximise distribution network availability
  • effectively manage demand during risk periods
  • strengthen communication and procedures for power system events.
